    SS San Juan Hill: this 505 foot merchant tanker was built in 1944 in Mobile, AL and named for the Spanish-American land Battle of San Juan Hill
    on the island of Cuba. The US Army including the Rough Riders defeated the Spanish soldiers and shortly after ended the war between these nations. This fine tanker ship transported fuel to US and Allied ships and shore facilities during WW II. (see the web pages for details of her design, construction, battles and post-war service history)
    Cover prepared on a gummed envelope and franked with 32 cent USS Maine stamp # 3192.
