USS SHANGRI-LA CV-38 Memorial naval first day cover with postmark from Fort Lauderdale, FL dated February 9, 2018. Blue photo cachet #1472 of carrier with vehicles and aircraft on deck by Alvin Eckert USCS #9964.
Cover prepared on a 55 cent flag stamped gummed envelop # U-700(FDOI) and a 15 cent Vietnam Campaign Ribbon stamp #1802.
Cover with a DIY matte and 5x7 frame, makes a fine gift!
USS Shangri-La: during WW II, this large fighting vessel served off Okinawa providing combat air cover and helping the 10th Army with close air support on ground targets. She went on to launch air raids on the enemy homeland. She earned two World War II Battle Stars.
